LWDT Black History Month Concert
February 22, 2025 | 7:30 pm
LWDT is proud to present these classic works as part of our 45th Anniversary moving to 50 and beyond.
Join us for Resistance, Resilience, Triumph 2025 Reflections in Dance Black History with classic ballets choreographed by black dance legends Donald McKayle, Talley Beatty, Donald Byrd, and Rennie Harris, along with works by Tamica Washington-Miller. This inspiring performance celebrates the beauty of African American cultural heritage through classic modern dance.
LWDT’s intimate studio offers a close encounter with classic works that are rarely seen on the west coast, including Donald McKayle’s I’ve Known Rivers; Talley Beatty’s Mourners Bench, an excerpt from his larger ballet Southern Landscapes; and Donald Byrd’s Folk Dance.
We are also proud to present musical guests, The Jay Dover Jazz Trio:
Jon’Ta-Sax, Che Tariff-Piano, and Kalum Harrison-Drums, students of Fernando Pullum based in Leimert Park.
For the Umoja Circle: Umoja Circle tickets include an invitation to an open rehearsal, pre-performance reception, premium seating, and post performance photos with Lula Washington and the company on stage.
